Pengenalan
Cekur berasal dari Asia Tropika. Penyebarannya meliputi kawasan di Asia Tenggara seperti Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand dan Vietnam serta India dan China. Di negara kita, kebanyakan kawasan ditanam di sekitar rumah yang berkeadaan lembab dengan sedikit teduhan. Tumbuhan ini mempunyai daun-daun yang lebar dan tumbuh mendatar di atas permukaan tanah. Saiz daun boleh mencapai sehingga 10 cm lebar dan 15 cm panjang. Pelepah daun pendek dan berukuran 2–3 cm sahaja. Cekur berbunga di tengah-tengah rumpun. Bunganya berwarna putih dan berbintik ungu. Daun dan rizomnya mempunyai bau yang unik dan sangat beraroma. Rizomnya berbentuk seperti susunan jari. Di hujung akarnya pula, terdapat butir-butir ubi berwarna putih kemerahan yang juga berbentuk seperti jari.
Khasiat dan Kegunaan
Rizom cekur digunakan sebagai tonik selepas bersalin bagi mengecutkan rahim, bahan untuk jamu bagi senak perut, membuang angin, sakit sendi serta melancarkan haid. Ia juga digunakan untuk melegakan batuk, mengurangkan bengkak dan dibuat bedak untuk merawat jerawat. Daunnya yang muda dimakan sebagai ulam atau dibuat kerabu. Rizomnya juga digunakan sebagai ramuan masakan.
